GROUCHY & GRUMPY - IS THAT WHAT WE ARE?

Consider these statistics from a Daily Mail article:

  • Children laugh 300 times a day
  • Teenagers 6 times a day
  • Young adults 3 times a day
  • 60 and above only 2.5 times a day
Putting aside the reliability of the numbers, we have to admit that as we age, we lose the ability to see the lighter side of things. After all, what's there to laugh about when we are faced with financial worries, health problems, and constant reminders of the loss of our self-worth?

But that's the thing. All the more we need to put a smile on our face to get us through the challenges of each day. Laughter may not erase problems or remove aches and pain. But studies have shown that laughter can reduce stress and strengthen the body's immune system. Apparently even fake or forced laughter has similar benefits.

If the jokes and cartoons that Seniorsaloud receives daily are anything to go by, I would say that the 50+ enjoy humour about gender (particularly the female gender), Malaysian politics, and sex. But top of the list are self-deprecating age-related jokes. I suppose this does confirm that we do have a sense of humour after all.

Here are some funnies to brighten up your weekend.
